# Tools

There is no Tools screen, on purpose. Every tool sits on the screen that shows you whether you need it — "create missing pages" means nothing without the count of shops that have none.

The Shop catalog gathers its four background jobs behind one **Bulk tools** button, but they are still on the screen that knows whether they are needed, and each row still carries its own count.

This page is the map.

### When something looks stale

| What you are seeing | Where to go | What to press |
| ------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------ | --------------------------------------------- |
| Shops in the catalog with no page | `Shop catalog` | **Bulk tools** → **Create missing pages** |
| Shops sorted oddly, or a cashback rate that looks out of date | `Shop catalog` | **Bulk tools** → **Sort order** → **Rebuild** |
| A network's shops are missing or out of date                  | `Networks` → the network | **Refresh shops**                             |
| Orders from a network have stopped arriving                   | `Networks` → the network | **Download orders**                           |
| One shop's coupons are stale                                  | `Coupons` → the row      | **Refresh shop**                              |
| Coupons everywhere look older than they should | `Coupons` | **Import status** |
| Shops with no description, or thin pages                      | `Shop catalog`           | **Bulk tools** → **Generate…**                |
| Shops in no category                                          | `Shop catalog`           | **Bulk tools** → **Categories**               |
| Coupons with unhelpful titles                                 | `Coupons`                | **Generate coupon text**                      |

### They tell you before you ask

Most of these announce themselves rather than waiting to be found.

* **Shop catalog** puts a number on **Bulk tools** — *Bulk tools (1)* — when a job has something waiting, and no number when none of them do.
* **Sort order** says whether every page is indexed, and only counts towards that number when one is actually behind.
* **Categories** counts towards it while proposals are waiting for you. Hovering **Bulk tools** names whatever is outstanding rather than leaving you with the number.
* **Coupons** puts a notice above the list only when a network is failing or the refresh cannot keep up. **Import status**, beside the title, holds the counts and the schedule for whenever you want them.
* The [summary email](/running-your-site/admin-digest.md) collects the same warnings and sends them to you.

So the honest answer to "which tool do I need?" is usually: open the screen and it will have told you.

### Writing text in bulk

**Generate…** on `Shop catalog` → **Bulk tools** and **Generate coupon text** on `Coupons` open the same runner. It writes only the fields you tick, skips rows that already have text unless you say otherwise, and stops at the bulk limit set under `Settings` → `AI`.

The **Categories** row opens the same runner with only that field armed. It does not write text at all — it sorts shops into categories and proposes new ones for you to approve. See [Sorting shops into categories with AI](/ai-and-seo/shop-categories-with-ai.md).

{% hint style="info" %}
It runs in the background. Close the dialog and carry on — a line stays on the screen while it works, and **Show progress** reopens it. There is only one runner, so a run started from Coupons has to finish before you can start one from Shop catalog.
{% endhint %}

Skipped rows either already had text, or the model could not work out which merchant it was and declined to invent one. Adding shop domains, or switching on **Web search**, helps with the second kind.

{% hint style="warning" %}
Generated text costs money at your AI provider, and the bulk limit is what stops a slip from spending a lot of it. Try a run of ten before a run of a thousand.
{% endhint %}
