# How your cashback website works

A cashback website is a commission-based model for affiliate marketing. The site owner receives a partner's commission and returns part of that commission to the buyer.

You need some basic knowledge of how affiliate marketing works to run a successful cashback site. We use the following terms in this guide:

1\. **Advertiser** or **Merchant** – an online retailer that promotes its products through an affiliate network.

2\. **Publisher** or **Affiliate** – you, the owner of the cashback website.

3\. **Affiliate Network** – an intermediary between the Advertiser and the Publisher.

4\. **User** or **Customer** – a buyer who clicks an affiliate link on your site and makes a purchase.

### How it works

1\. Register as a publisher with one of the supported affiliate networks. Most networks also require approval for each merchant you plan to promote.

2\. Each network has its own module in the Cashback Tracker plugin. Activate the relevant modules, add your API keys, and set the default percentage of your commission to return to buyers. You can also set a different value for each merchant.

3\. Add affiliate links to your site using one of the available methods: via [shop pages](/shortcodes/shop-list-shortcode), via the [plugin's shortcodes](/shortcodes/advertiser-info-shortcode), via [Content Egg](/ce-ae-plugin-integration/content-egg-integration), [Affiliate Egg](/ce-ae-plugin-integration/affiliate-egg-integration), or custom solutions or theme functions.

4\. The customer must be [registered](/user-registrations/user-registrations) and logged in to your site. Once logged in, they receive a special Sub ID that is appended to affiliate links so the network can track their orders. A few important requirements: the purchase must be made after clicking an affiliate link on your site, the user must have their ad blocker disabled, and cookies must be enabled in their browser. There are WordPress plugins that notify users when an ad blocker is detected; search Google to find them.

5\. It takes some time for the affiliate network to track a purchase and reflect it in statistics. Cashback Tracker will check the network's API and [load updated statistics](/troubleshooting-and-faq/orders).

Each new purchase is assigned **Pending** status, meaning the order has been assigned to the user. The merchant can then approve or decline the order (**Approved** or **Declined** status). Note that merchants may take several weeks to approve an order, which means you will not receive your commission — and cannot pay cashback — until the order reaches Approved status. We generally recommend informing users that they should expect cashback within 3–4 weeks of purchase.

6\. When a status changes, the plugin fires special events. If you have PHP skills, you can use them to [write custom functions](/for-developers/cashback-events). We also provide a built-in [integration with the myCRED points plugin](/mycred-plugin-integration/introduction) for users without coding experience.

The plugin creates three custom point types in myCRED — Pending, Approved, and Declined — for each currency. You can then use myCRED add-ons to [display statistics to users](/mycred-plugin-integration/visualization-for-users) and [manage points](/mycred-plugin-integration/point-management). myCRED integrates well with BuddyPress and many other themes and plugins. Most myCRED add-ons are free, as is the core myCRED plugin itself.

7\. Approved points can be converted to real value. For example, you can sell real products for points, restrict access to parts of your site based on a user's point balance, or exchange points for gift cards or PayPal/bank transfers. Note that Cashback Tracker does not include a built-in withdrawal form. You will need to [add a request form](/how-to/how-to-redeem-points-for-money) for users or use one of the [myCRED Cash Out add-ons](https://mycred.me/add-ons/cashcred/).

# Quick start

**Step 1: Install the plugin**

[Download](https://www.keywordrush.com/panel) the plugin, log in to your WordPress dashboard, and [install it](/getting-started/installation) via the "Upload Plugin" option. Then activate Cashback Tracker.

**Step 2: Install myCRED**

Go to `Plugins` → `Add New`, search for "myCRED", then install and activate it. See the [myCRED setup guide](/mycred-plugin-integration/mycred-installation-setup) for details.

**Step 3: Generate demo orders**

Go to the [Demo module](/affiliate-networks-settings/demo) settings and generate 3 demo orders to verify everything is working correctly.

# Demo

When you set up a new cashback site, you won't have any orders yet, but you can test plugin functionality using the Demo module. Each activation generates 3 orders with different statuses: `Pending`, `Approved`, and `Declined`. To generate them, click the button:

![](/files/-M6GgBiSDJpcRgTE9J3t)

Orders will be added to the Admin user.

Use `123` as the Advertiser ID to test the custom cashback feature.

![](/files/-M6GgPI0Q32Ct2eK5ZYW)

# Advertisers

Once you enable the module, you can see all advertisers approved in your account:

![](/files/-M6GgdlDI_ZdWmOecQQ3)

{% hint style="info" %}
If you add new advertisers in your affiliate network account, click the **Refresh** button to load the updated list. This is recommended — some plugin functions may not work correctly with an outdated merchant list. Existing cashback for already-listed merchants will continue to work.
{% endhint %}

Go to `Cashback Tracker` → `Advertisers` to see all active advertisers.

Note that `Commission` is added to the table automatically, and `Cashback` is calculated based on your cashback settings.

![](/files/-M6Gh0usYBTp7D74kCG8)

{% hint style="info" %}
Some advertisers have complex cashback structures, so this field may appear unusual. In that case, you can set cashback manually on the advertiser's shop page.
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="info" %}
Use [Advertiser Info shortcodes](/shortcodes/advertiser-info-shortcode) to display advertiser information anywhere on your site.
{% endhint %}

# Cashback shop pages

Cashback Tracker adds a special **Cashback Shop** section to your site.

![](/files/-M6Gh_VkL-Ju2-l1_Tgh)

These pages are useful for SEO and allow users to view current cashback values and other statistics for each shop.

Each page includes the advertiser's logo (as a Featured Image) and several auto-filled fields. The page also has a Content Area and a Custom Sidebar where you can add text, shortcodes, and other content to better showcase each merchant.

![](/files/-M6Ghg8u8MoNM99qi_R-)

{% hint style="info" %}
You can create a custom template for shop pages.
{% endhint %}

### Binding to advertiser

To properly link a page to a module and enable the ["Go to shop" button](/user-registrations/go-to-shop-button) with tracking, make sure you've set the `Module ID` and `Advertiser ID`. All other fields are optional.

![](/files/-M6Gi7xrLND5JzCGDTC6)

{% hint style="success" %}
You can enter the merchant's domain as the Advertiser ID — the plugin will find the correct merchant.
{% endhint %}

### Auto creation of shop pages

Follow these steps to automatically create pages for all advertisers:

\- Go to `Cashback Tracker` → `Advertisers`.

\- Click `Refresh all advertisers`.

\- Click `Create all pages`.

![](/files/-M6GiS-H65pWmVfAkFhb)

You can also add advertisers manually.

### Editing an advertiser

All fields are generated automatically, but you can override them (for example, the merchant name or cashback notice) in the `Shop Info` panel.

You can set the shop logo as the Featured Image.

![](/files/-M6Gi_k0V1KrXFLRrzo_)

### How to make a shop list and shop archive

Create a page on your site and use the [Shop List shortcodes](/shortcodes/shop-list-shortcode).

![](/files/-M6GikovE_Kw-6oNr2CK)

# Default and custom cashback value

You must set a default cashback value in the settings of each module.

![](/files/-M6GqjyP8XpRSbDsj99R)

You can choose one of the following cashback calculation methods:

* Percentage of sale amount
* Percentage of my commission
* Flat amount

We recommend **"Percentage of my commission"** — users will receive a predictable cashback amount based on your commission.

You can also set different cashback values for each advertiser:

![](/files/-M6GqxD4fqiJ4PpD-qjX)

# Coupons auto-import

To enable coupon auto-import, go to `Cashback Tracker` → `Coupons` → `Coupon Import` (enabled by default).

The plugin uses the default WordPress cron to update coupons in the background. No additional cron configuration is required. After activation, allow some time for all coupons to finish loading.

{% hint style="info" %}
The plugin imports/updates approximately 50 merchant feeds per hour.
{% endhint %}

Go to `Cashback Tracker` → `Advertisers` → `Coupons` to see the coupon count and last update date for each merchant.

{% embed url="<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cf8XTwQj09o>" %}

# Advertisers/Shop list

You can create a dedicated page to display a list of merchants using the following shortcode:

```php
[cashback-shops type=grid]
```

This shortcode creates a shop grid:

![](/files/-M6GrEpLOGLPizJx3zf7)

Available parameters:

| **Parameter name** | **Description**                                                                     |
| ------------------ | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| type               | Possible values: `grid`, `alphabet`, `widget`.                                      |
| cols | Number of columns for the grid. Maximum: 10. Default: 5. |

| order | Ascending or descending sort order. Possible values: `ASC`, `DESC`. |
| include | Comma-separated list of Shop page IDs to include. |
| exclude | Comma-separated list of Shop page IDs to exclude. |
| imageheight | Logo height in pixels. |
| wrapclass | Additional CSS class for the block wrapper. |
| classitem | Additional CSS class for each item. |

```php
[cashback-shops type=alphabet]
```

This shortcode displays all available merchants on your site in alphabetical order:

![](/files/-M6GrfzgD1Vib51wdcpe)

# Tracking links

For tracking to work correctly, follow these requirements:

* The user must be registered and logged in to the site.
* The user must click a special link containing a SubID. You can create such links with the shortcodes below. SubID support is also available in Content Egg and Affiliate Egg plugins, and in some themes such as Rehub.

The plugin provides several shortcodes for creating tracking links.

{% hint style="info" %}
If a user is not logged in and clicks such a link, it works as a plain affiliate link without tracking or cashback.
{% endhint %}

### Tracking link for domain

The following shortcode creates a tracking link for the AliExpress merchant:

```php
[tracking-link advertiser="aliexpress.com" anchor="Click here for cashback!" /]
```

{% hint style="warning" %}
You must be approved by the merchant in your affiliate network. If you were recently approved, refresh the advertiser list in the module's settings.
{% endhint %}

### Tracking link for Advertiser ID

The safer, recommended approach is to use the Advertiser ID instead of a domain and also specify the module name:

```php
[tracking-link advertiser=6115 module=Admitad anchor="Go to Aliexpress" /]
```

{% hint style="success" %}
How to get the Advertiser ID is explained in the [Affiliate networks settings](/affiliate-networks-settings/admitad).
{% endhint %}

### Tracking link for product URL

You can also create a link pointing directly to a product page instead of the merchant's homepage:

```php
[tracking-link advertiser=6115 module=Admitad product="https://aliexpress.com/item//32218315642.html" target="blank"]Product tracking link[/tracking-link]
```

### All available shortcode parameters

| **Parameter name** | **Synonym**    | **Required?** | **Description**                                                 |
| ------------------ | -------------- | ------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------- |
| advertiser         | advertiser\_id | Yes           | Merchant domain or Advertiser ID                                |
| module | module\_id | No | Module name. For example: Admitad, Awin, Demo. |
| anchor | text | No | Link anchor text. If omitted, the URL is used as the link text. |
| product            | product\_url   | No            | URL of the product.                                             |
| class              |                | No            | CSS class for the link.                                         |
| target             |                | No            | `target` attribute.                                             |
| rel                |                | No            | `rel` attribute. Defaults to `nofollow`.                        |

### How to make a tracking link with custom attributes

WordPress doesn't officially support shortcodes inside HTML, but it still works in the HTML editor.

In the Gutenberg editor, add a Custom HTML block, or switch to the Code editor in the Classic Editor.

![](/files/-M6Gtoe4Ev3fTxFn8VXT)

You can then add an `href` attribute to create a custom link:

```php
<a href="[tracking-link advertiser=15767 /]">My custom link</a>
```

# Advertiser info

All cashback sites have a separate page for each advertiser. [Read how to create them](/advertiser-pages/cashback-shops-custom-post-type).

You can also use shortcodes to display advertiser information anywhere on your site or in custom templates. For example, the following shortcode shows the average number of days for sale validation:

```php
[cashback-advertiser advertiser="aliexpress.com" display="validation_days" /]
```

We recommend using the direct Advertiser ID and module ID instead of a domain:

```php
[cashback-advertiser advertiser=6115 module=Admitad display="validation_days" /]
```

The following shows the advertiser name:

```php
[cashback-advertiser advertiser=6115 module=Admitad display="name" /]
```

The following shows the cashback amount for the advertiser:

```php
[cashback-advertiser advertiser=6115 module="Admitad" display="cashback" /]
```

{% hint style="info" %}
This value is calculated dynamically based on your settings.
{% endhint %}

### All available values for the display parameter

# User registrations

A cashback site requires users to be logged in to earn cashback, so you need to allow user registration on your site. Go to `Settings` → `General` and make sure "Anyone can register" is enabled.

![](/files/-M6Gv0iFCeDnRPpwNx1Q)

# Go to shop button

If a shop page is properly connected to an advertiser, a `"Go to shop"` button appears on the page. Logged-in users see a direct link to the shop (with your tracking link). Users who are not logged in are redirected to the registration page.

We recommend checking with your theme's developers about built-in registration/login modals. Many themes include their own registration systems.

For this purpose, two fields are available in General Settings:

#### Registration URL

Enter the URL of your custom registration page. This URL is used when a non-logged-in user clicks the button on an advertiser's page. You can use the standard WordPress login URL (`site.com/wp-login.php`). We also recommend installing BuddyPress for user profiles — you can then use `site.com/register/` for the BuddyPress registration page.

#### Go to shop button class

You can add a custom CSS class to the buttons. Some themes include a special class that triggers a login modal — you can use that class here.

{% hint style="success" %}
If you use the Rehub theme, you don't need to add anything here — the theme already has the appropriate button classes. Just enable the login popup in `Theme Options` → `User Options`.
{% endhint %}

# Introduction

Cashback Tracker does not have a built-in point system, so we added deep integration with [myCRED](https://wordpress.org/plugins/mycred/).

Because Cashback Tracker is a tracking plugin, we prefer to give admins more freedom in how they manage points. That's why we use the well-known myCRED plugin — the best free plugin for point management — which integrates well with many themes and with BuddyPress.

# Installation & setup

Go to `Plugins` → `Add New`, search for "myCRED", then install and activate the plugin.

You don't need to create custom point types — the plugin creates them automatically when the first order arrives. You can use a demo order to trigger this.

#### Activate integration

`Cashback Tracker` → `General Settings` → `myCRED integration` = **Enabled**

#### myCRED documentation

`https://codex.mycred.me/chapter-i/the-plugin/`

When the first order arrives, the plugin creates three point types: Pending, Approved, and Declined.

![](/files/-M6GwjSED8jHhkO8gzkB)

Each new order is initially assigned to Pending. It can then become Approved or Declined. In the logs, you'll see the plugin reduce the Pending points and increase the corresponding Approved or Declined points.

# Visualization for users

Once users have points, you can display them on your site. myCRED integrates with many profile plugins, such as BuddyPress, and also lets you show user points in a widget or via a shortcode on any page.

Refer to the myCRED documentation for more:

* [Shortcodes](https://codex.mycred.me/chapter-ii/shortcodes/)
* [Widgets](https://codex.mycred.me/chapter-ii/widgets/)

You may also be interested in myCRED add-ons. For example, the [Email add-on](https://codex.mycred.me/chapter-iii/email-notice/) can notify users when their cashback is approved, and the [Badge add-on](https://codex.mycred.me/chapter-iii/badges/) can award badges based on approved points.

# Point management

As a site admin, you can adjust any user's points from the admin panel. See the myCRED documentation for instructions on [adjusting balances](https://codex.mycred.me/chapter-ii/adjusting-balances/).

# Content Egg integration

If you use [Content Egg Pro](https://www.keywordrush.com/contentegg) for your price comparison site, you can enable the Content Egg and Cashback Tracker integration. Go to `Content Egg` → `Settings` → `Cashback Tracker Integration`:

![](/files/-M6GxFHLvzKhU6oSFPfW)

All links in Content Egg — for networks supported by Cashback Tracker — will then be automatically replaced with cashback tracking links.

For example, if you have the Admitad module active and use Admitad [Deeplinks](https://www.keywordrush.com/docs/content-egg/DeeplinkSettings.html) in Content Egg, clicking those links while logged in will automatically append the SubID.

{% hint style="info" %}
This works for all [CE + AE modules](https://www.keywordrush.com/docs/content-egg/AffiliateEggIntegration.html).
{% endhint %}

In some templates, a cashback notice is also displayed.

# Affiliate Egg integration

If you use [Affiliate Egg Pro](https://www.keywordrush.com/affiliateegg), you can enable the Cashback Tracker integration. Go to `Affiliate Egg` → `General Settings` → `Cashback Tracker Integration`:

{% hint style="info" %}
This also works for all [CE + AE modules](https://www.keywordrush.com/docs/content-egg/AffiliateEggIntegration.html).
{% endhint %}

# WooCommerce integration

Go to `Cashback Tracker` → `Settings` and activate the following settings:

![](/files/-MWDe0v5mvo8CP9xgZQm)

Links for external products — for all networks supported by Cashback Tracker — will be replaced with cashback tracking links.

# Logs

For new sites, we recommend enabling the maximum debug level. Go to `Cashback Tracker` → `General Settings` → `Log Alerts` and set the value to `"All"`.

We also recommend enabling admin email alerts in `Cashback Tracker` → `Email Alerts`.

If you have any issues, check the `Logs` section in the plugin menu.

# Orders

You can view all orders, statuses, and commissions on the plugin's `Orders` page.

Cashback Tracker automatically checks for new orders and status updates using the WordPress cron.

You can also download the latest orders by clicking `"Download orders"` on each module's page:

![](/files/-M6Gyh4hTY3Ohaz8RnWa)

{% hint style="info" %}
Orders made without a SubID will not be added to the Cashback Tracker plugin.
{% endhint %}

Each order has three different IDs:

1. ID in the plugin's local table
2. ID in the affiliate network's database
3. ID in the merchant's database

Keep this in mind when searching for an order by ID.

# FAQ

#### How to withdraw points as real money?

Cashback Tracker does not include a withdrawal option because it is a tracking plugin. However, you can [create a request form for users](/how-to/how-to-redeem-points-for-money).

# How to unify Tracking ID prefix

If you use the same Publisher ID on several WordPress installs (separate domains, subdomains, or subdirectories), you must use a unique tracking prefix for each site.

Add the following to your theme's `functions.php` file:

```php
function my_cbtrkr_subid_prefix()
{
    return 'yourprefix';
}
add_filter('cbtrkr_subid_prefix', 'my_cbtrkr_subid_prefix');
```

Please use only letters `(a-z)` for the prefix.

# How to redeem points for money

**1. cashCred built-in extension**

If you are using the myCRED plugin, check the cashCred extension:

<https://mycred.me/add-ons/cashcred/>

<https://mycred.me/blog/launching-2-0-beta-version-soon/>

**2. Manual way with a request form**

Cashback Tracker is a plugin for tracking orders and converting them to points. Because every site has its own currency, payment system, and location, we cannot include a built-in withdrawal option — payments must be made to users manually. To support this, you should add a cashback request form to your site where users can submit their withdrawal requests.

We recommend the free [Contact Form 7](https://wordpress.org/plugins/contact-form-7/) plugin.

One useful feature is the ability to add special placeholders in the form. See all available [mail tags](https://contactform7.com/special-mail-tags/).

For example, you can add the `[_user_login]` placeholder in the form content — it will be replaced with the user's login name in the email. Then you can go to `Users` → `All Users`, find the user, make the payment, and deduct their approved points manually. The plugin supports many field types, so you can include fields for PayPal address, bank account details, and so on.

# How to change points to real products

Another option for myCRED points is to sell content or products for points. See the myCRED [Sell Content documentation](https://codex.mycred.me/chapter-iii/sell-content/) for details.

# How to change Go to shop button color

Go to `Cashback Tracker` → `Settings` and select a `Main Color`:

![](/files/-M6H-7M65gt8ZX4PHfo1)

# How to give commission to author of post

By default, the plugin adds the User ID to the tracking link. This allows admins to see which user made a purchase and pay them cashback.

However, this is not the only way to use Cashback Tracker. In some cases, you may want to give commission to the post author instead of the buyer. For example, this is useful for multi-author sites where each author has access to admin pages and uses Content Egg, Affiliate Egg, or Cashback Tracker shortcodes. You can enable the option to assign the Author ID to each link, then track which author generates the best performance and pay them commission from your affiliate sales.

Go to `Cashback Tracker` → `General Settings` and check the `"Author ID"` option.

# Cashback events

Cashback Tracker is a plugin for tracking and statistics. If you want to extend its functionality, you can use the following hooks.

{% hint style="warning" %}
You need PHP and WordPress coding skills to use this section.
{% endhint %}

### Order hooks

Cashback Tracker provides three events for custom functions:

|                        |                                            |
| ---------------------- | ------------------------------------------ |
| cbtrkr\_order\_create  | A new order was added with Pending status. |
| cbtrkr\_order\_approve | An order received Approved status.         |
| cbtrkr\_order\_decline | An order received Declined status.         |

Example of a hook:

```php
add_action('cbtrkr_order_create', 'myOrderCreate');
function myOrderCreate($order)
{
    //print_r($order);
}
```

\
The variable contains an array with the following data:

```php
array
(
    'id' => '177'
    'user_id' => '1'
    'order_id' => '1556116749647'
    'module_id' => 'Demo'
    'create_date' => '2019-04-24 14:39:09'
    'order_status' => '0'
    'completion_date' => null
    'advertiser_id' => '123'
    'advertiser_domain' => 'example.com'
    'currency_code' => 'USD'
    'sale_amount' => '590.00'
    'commission_amount' => '29.50'
    'subid' => 'cbtrkr-1'
    'click_date' => '2019-04-04 04:59:14'
    'action_date' => '2019-04-20 07:55:01'
    'user_referer' => ''
    'api_response' => ''
    'merchant_order_id' => '1556116749647'
)
```

Example of code to calculate cashback and currency:

```php
list($amount, $currency) = \CashbackTracker\application\components\Commission::calculateCashback($order);
```
