# Working with an SEO plugin

Cashback Tracker works alongside the usual SEO plugins rather than competing with them:

* Yoast SEO
* Rank Math
* SEOPress
* The SEO Framework

Nothing to install or connect. If one of them is active, it is detected.

### Your SEO plugin always wins

**Cashback Tracker never overwrites anything you wrote in your SEO plugin.** If you have set a title or meta description on a shop page there, that is what is used. Always.

The plugin only fills in what you have left empty.

That rule is the whole design. Your SEO plugin is where you do deliberate work on important pages, and nothing here should quietly undo it.

### The setting

`Settings` → `AI` → **Write metadata into SEO plugins**. On by default.

With it **on**, Cashback Tracker supplies the SEO title and meta description to your SEO plugin for shop pages where you have left those fields empty. Your shops get proper metadata without you filling in four hundred boxes.

With it **off**, Cashback Tracker leaves your SEO plugin alone entirely. Shop pages get whatever your SEO plugin produces on its own — usually a generic template, or nothing.

{% hint style="info" %}
**The SEO plugin's own boxes stay empty**, and that is expected. The value is supplied when the page is built rather than written into their fields. You have not lost anything, and nothing has failed — look at the page source, or the plugin's preview, to see the real output.
{% endhint %}

### Where to keep shop metadata

Pick one place per shop and stay with it.

**In Cashback Tracker's Shop Info**, for most shops. It is where the rest of the shop's data lives, it can be generated with AI, and it travels with the shop rather than with an SEO plugin you might change later.

**In your SEO plugin**, for the handful of pages you are actively working on. Deliberate, hand-written, and it overrides everything else.

What causes confusion is splitting it — a title in one, a description in the other. Both work, but six months later nobody knows which page is configured where.

{% hint style="warning" %}
If you ever remove your SEO plugin, anything you wrote **in it** goes with it. Metadata in Shop Info stays. That is worth weighing if you are undecided.
{% endhint %}

### With no SEO plugin at all

Everything still works. Cashback Tracker outputs titles, descriptions, Open Graph tags and structured data on its own, and WordPress produces the sitemap.

An SEO plugin is not required for shop pages to be indexed sensibly. See [SEO output](/ai-and-seo/seo-output.md).

### Checking what is actually output

View the page source and look at the `<title>` and the description meta tag, or use your SEO plugin's own preview.

If the SEO plugin's fields look empty but the page source is right, that is the expected behaviour described above.
