# Adding a network

`Cashback Tracker` → `Networks`

### What the screen shows

Every network is already listed — the ten built-in ones are there from the start, whether you use them or not, alongside any custom networks you have created.

| Column       | What it tells you                                                                          |
| ------------ | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| **Network**  | Its name, with a badge: **Active**, **Not in use**, **Custom**, or **No longer supported** |
| **Shops**    | How many shops you hold from it, and when they were last refreshed                         |
| **Orders**   | How many orders, and when it was last checked                                              |
| **Cashback** | The default rate members get from this network                                             |

A network reading **Not in use** is simply switched off. Nothing is wrong with it.

### Switching on a built-in network

1. Find it in the list and press **Configure**.
2. Paste the credentials it asks for. Each network wants something different — see [Supported networks](/affiliate-networks/supported-networks.md) for exactly which fields, and where to find them.
3. Tick **Enable network**.
4. Set **Default cashback** — the share of the commission your members get. It starts at 50%.
5. Save.

Then press **Refresh shops** on the row to pull in the shops you are approved for.

You are not "adding" these networks — they are always present. The **Add custom network** button at the top is for something else entirely, covered below.

### Checking it worked

The row itself is the test. After a refresh:

* **Shops** shows a count and a time. A count of 0 with a recent time usually means you are not approved for any advertisers yet.
* If the network could not be reached, the row says so, with the reason underneath.

For anything more detailed, press **Log** on the row — that shows what this network actually said, in its own words. It is far more useful than guessing.

Press **Details** to see everything the plugin holds about the connection.

### Common mistakes

**Whitespace.** A key copied from an email often brings a trailing space. It looks identical and fails completely.

**Mixing halves of two credentials.** Several networks issue paired values — Admitad's Client ID and Secret, Impact's Account SID and Auth Token. Both halves must come from the same key. Mixing them fails in a way that reads like a typo.

**The wrong website ID.** Awin, Admitad, CJ, Pepperjam and Linkwise all identify *which of your sites* separately from *who you are*. Get it wrong and shops import perfectly while orders never arrive at all — which sends people looking in entirely the wrong place.

**Login credentials instead of API credentials.** Linkwise in particular issues an API username and password separate from the ones you sign in with.

### Turning a network off

Untick **Enable network**. Its shops and orders stay exactly where they are; nothing new is imported.

That is the right way to pause a network you are having trouble with, or one you have left. Do not delete anything to achieve it.

### Custom networks

**Add custom network** is for a network with no built-in module — a smaller network, or a direct arrangement with one merchant.

You add its shops by hand, and it sends you sales by [postback](/affiliate-networks/postbacks.md) rather than being polled. See [Building a custom network](/affiliate-networks/custom-network.md).

Never create a custom network for one that already has a module. Both would import the same sales, and **members would be credited twice**, at two different rates.

### Networks marked "No longer supported"

A network shown as deprecated still works with the data you already have, but it is no longer maintained and will be removed in a future version. Do not build anything new on it.
